After 27 months of taking my 07 GS350 AWD back to dealership 4x to address dash rattle which by the way still sqeaks and rattle. Each time it was there it stayed for a week at shop. 3x I had the mirrors checked because the tilt feature started to malfunction when reversing & each time I was told by service rep that it was normal function. Bought it in one time for fuel rail recall on top of this. 2x I had to take my car back after installing f-sport sway bars because it clunks and thumps when going over bumps which still makes noise, I finally said goodbye and traded it for an 08 BMW 650i. What a difference ! The Bimmer has a sport suspension and is rock solid. No rattles & is compliant over bumps. I had a little buyer's remorse when I purchased the Lexus but even though the BMW cost more I have no regrets and smile everytime I get in it to drive. This was my first Lexus and they really need to address issues in quality, my impression at first was that they are solid and reliable and quiet cars. Apparently they are not, but I must say they have wonderful customer service.
I think lexus knows about all these issues, the problem is that you cant look for BMW traits in a Lexus; and you cant look for Lexus traits on a BMW. different cars with different things to offer.
The best thing to have is a modded lexus, you have the best of both worlds. get stiffer suspension, sway bar, and you are set. its alot cheper than a BMW too.
I love the 6 series BTW hehe
THEY ARE solid, reliable and quite cars whether you like it or not
NO, they are NOT! They USED TO BE reliable and quiet cars, and then they got cocky. My first Lexus (2007 GS 450h) has been a HUGE disappointment in terms of hardware integrity (numerous rattles, squeaks, and creaks).
I have not given up on Lexus completely though: just ordered a 2010 GS 450h. My hope is that in four years since the introduction of this model they got the kinks worked out. If that turns out to be a false assumption, it will be a bye-bye Lexus for me as well....
I've only had one rattle which was solved by a single visit to my dealer. Left the car one morning at the dealer and picked it up the next. Any other issues I get fixed at the oil changes...just call them ahead of time to order parts.
I'm sure if I bought a 5 series the dealer would laugh at me for complaining about rattles or things like replacing trim because it is scratched.
FYI, according to CR for the BMW 6 series (06 is latest data): major electrical, climate, power equipment, and audio system issues. With average problems with suspension, brakes, squeaks and rattles, and body hardware.

I had rattles & squeaks turning up when the car only had 400 miles on ODO.
When I took lexus in 1st time for rattles they broke windshield while removing windshield clips. They replaced it but claimed there was a pressure crack in windshield cover under warranty when car had 400 miles on ODO. 3rd time they removed dash and broke interior trim , shift **** scratched, seats scratch. They only replaced shift ****.
My other car a CPO 06 BMW 3 series, when I complained about various trim inside wearing for example: lettering fading on steering wheel buttons, stain on roundel horn emblem it was never a problem they replaced all interior trim pieces no questions asked. When my free maintenance was expiring and I inquired about extending the warranty my CA changed my brakes even before they were due to save me money. Brakes is the most expensive maintenance item on BMW's. Where did you hear that they laugh at you when you complain? BTW my BMW has more mileage than the Lexus and it does not rattle or squeak.

Sounds like your dealer is cutting corners to save a few bucks. Sorry to hear that...must have been really frustrating. However, that is usually the exception rather than the norm. I would have called up the manager and gave them hell followed by calling Lexus and having them investigate the issue.
However, the fact that it can be fixed if done right is still there.
You can get up to 2 free brake pads on the 3GS by simply bringing the TSB...I've had my dealer offer to replace them last year for free. Not a big issue in my case, as my original 07 brakes are still near 40%.
Search for "bmw warranty rattle" on Google and you will see. They only started doing that in the US due to the Lemon Law. In Canada, they might do "goodwill" repairs if they feel like it. Otherwise, they really couldn't care less unless something is broken/not working.
You're sure based on what? Reading bimmerfest.com and other BMW forums for over a year tells me a completely different story.
Based on friends and forums I have read (there are numerous BMW ones). I guess you haven't read my post properly, as I said they do fix it in the US because of the lemon law. They don't do rattle and squeak/rattle fixes here unless you starting annoying the manager of the dealership and they just might do "goodwill" repairs.
People have a hard time convincing my local dealer (Brian Jessel) to fix mechanical problems, let alone squeaks and stuff. They would laugh if you asked them to fix a loose speaker or heat shield for example (or would just outright charge you for it).
