Has anyone actually read the proposed law.

It has nothing to do with tint being legal.

Synopsis As Introduced
Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that a person may not install or repair any sign, poster, window application, reflective material, nonreflective material, or tinted film upon the front windshield, sidewings or side windows immediately adjacent to each side of the driver. Provides that a first violation is a petty offense with a fine between $50 and $500, and a second or subsequent offense is a Class C misdemeanor with a fine between $100 and $500. Provides that an installer may install window treatment for who is legally permitted, due to medical reasons, to drive with window treatment that would otherwise be illegal and provides that the installer must obtain and store a copy of a doctor's certificate or letter from the person with medical condition in the installer's permanent records. Provides that the Secretary of State shall provide a notice of the requirements of a provision prohibiting driving a motor vehicle with any sign, poster, window application, reflective material, nonreflective material, or tinted film upon the front windshield, sidewings or side windows immediately adjacent to each side of the driver, unless an exception applies, to a new resident applying for vehicle registration.

Just got my first tint "ticket" the other day on my way to a JDM Chicago meet. I laughed my a$$ off. The guy was cool and gave me a $25, basically a parking ticket equivalent. Total score

Default Just days until it is legal

The Governor of Illinois has 60 days from the time he received the bill till he must take action or else it become a full law. And the bill was sent to his desk on 6/26 so by aprox 8/26 it will either be signed into a law or default into a law

So by "technical" terms we should be getting a yay or nay from the governor soon...

Just thought I'd let you all know, apparently the Secretary of State is already abiding by the new bill (HB3325) as if it were already law. There's wording in it that states medical exemptions won't be allowed for people who can suitably protect themselves with proper eye wear. If you call up the Springfield SOS, they'll tell you that they won't qualify people for eye-related conditions, "based on thenew law."

I guess the good news there is that if the SOS is already acting like the bill is law, then we can be pretty sure that the new bill will be signed off by the governor by the end of August.

Anyone know if they'll stop handing out tickets to parked cars then, under the new law? Technically, they'd need a light meter to evaluate our windows, and wouldn't be able to use one if the car was locked, right?
