How will they test this in the field? How can they be sure of what % tint you have that would be legal/illegal? Im pretty psyched though regardless
They can test it and I am sure they will. I cant recall what its called but it will allow them to test how much light goes through. I am sure there is a tolerance of +/- 5% and not tint will be exact on each car.
The just need to pass this and be done. Seems there is no update.
i know it is ok in IN..... but is the IL tint law apply to the IL plates only or all cars??
Technically they can give you a ticket for having it on your windows in the state if they wanted to so I have been told. Its like having a radar and driving through VA and not taking it down or turning it off. Its a state law and you are responsible to check and be on top of this before you travel.
Tint will be legal soon but not that soon. Senator Suzi Bassi was a real help with this also. One of my friends was involved with it. . He performed a tint demo for illinois state police in springfield before this went to the house. It probably won't be legalized until next session next year though. Politics are slow. It is a big thing for the industry though. I used to be in the tint business when it was booming. We tinted all the top cars that dealers displayed on their showrooms before they were even sold. Dealers Now cars are tinted only after the dealers aftermarket guy sells them. This law will definitely help dealers and tinters businesses. It will also give us all some great cars to look at. A couple guys I know still for the big dealers in chicago area . You can PM me for more info
I read the title and wished it upon California! Can we say, tinting prevents race profiling? since they can't see the occupants. Then again, stereotypes will reign in...then again, that could be ammo for a lawsuit. Goodluck.
I was thinking the exact same thing! How are they going to tell what the % of tints you have. They just need to leave you alone if they can see you a little. I really shouldn't say anything. I am driving next to State Troopers every day to and from work. They have never stopped me. AND I don't wear my seat belt!

I got my WT plates and Caesar tinted my windows last week. Right now it's still illegal to tint your windshield at all, even a strip at the top, even w/WT plates. There's no % limit on the rear or sides w/the WT plate, though. I went w/20% all around and really like it. My driver's side got caught on the weatherstrip at the bottom and I have to go back to Caesar for a re-do... but he's a great man to use for tinting.
I live in the near-North side and the cops around here LOVE to ticket for window tints and especially missing front plates. I don't think they'll ever get rid of front plates, since the photo-tickets are such a great source on income for the city.
