Don't do it!

This job is a huge PITA. Especially if you are trying to install angel eyes. A weekend is definitely not enough time to do it right, so unless you have a backup car, it will force you to rush and screw up. I did it on my Legacy GT. I still have the screwed up headlights in my garage. I was forced to put them back together before the weekend was over and smudged the not fully dry paint. I was installing Angel Eyes as well and believe me those things are the worst. For the Legacy, the 2005-06 models came with blacked out headlights from the factory so I just bought a set online. Every weekend I say to myself all I have to do is crack them open, repaint them, and I can sell them for some decent money, but I'm past the point where money motivates me to do things that painful.

I have an e-mail into Advanced Automotive Concepts in New Orleans about doing this for me over July 4th weekend. I'm going to be in that area for a few days over the holiday weekend, so we'll see if it works out. They do angel eye installs so I figure they at least know how to take the headlight apart. Plus it looks like they tint taillights too, I wonder if that's another internal painting thing or if it's just vinyl...

It won't hurt the bulbs to bake at 200F for 10 minutes. Also for all that wiring on the loom along the bottom of the light - don't sweat it. 200F for 10 minutes isn't going to hurt it. It's way too much work to take all that crap off just to pop the lenses. Trust me.

Work a screwdriver in the 'point' of the headlight, but be careful to not bend the plastic a great deal. I started at the inside point where the headlight points to the center of the bumper, if that makes sense. The glue has go to be really freshly warm. It cures back to a hardened state pretty quickly, so work fast when you get them out of the oven. I just pried that one section until I could just get the lense separated from the housing, then pried the rest apart by hand.

^ it would definitely be best to pry from the top corner of the headlight first

hey guys! Huge fan of halos. One thing holding me back is my car color

I have a Tungsten Pearl (1G1) color. Nothing has been blacked out (badges, grilles, etc). I was wondering if it is necessary to paint my chrome housing black to have these halos installed. I know chrome will have a huge toll in reflections and etc but would you guys prefer chrome housing with halos or black housing with halos?

Sorry really needed to ask the question. Had these halos on the back of my head for quite a while now

------ADDED-----
Hey so I was wondering if you guys could help me decide if I should paint housings black or leave it chrome. Having halos in day time would be nice. Here are some pictures on what my light installments look like. Also what K lumens perhaps?

That's exactly what one of my friends told me who did it to his IS, so I gladly forked over the cash to get mine done. Came out great for you though, you should be proud of a job well done.
