They are washable. No kit required. Soap and water, maybe a little degreaser.

Are these better than the K&N.
The K&N seems to cost more....just wondering as I
was planning on using this and the joez pipe.

I like the HKS better since you don't have to oil the filter. If you put a little to much oil on the K&N after cleaning it the oil will attach itself to the Mass Air Flow sensor and cause problems. As far as performance goes I believe they are equal.
