Went with my buddies yesterday, crazy winding road. Fun to drive.
Discalimer:
not responsible for anything encountered in the route.
1. Dont go tooooo fast as some of them are VERY windy
2. Some bikes zooming through both directions
3. Narrow hill road for 2 ways
4. No lights
5. Some guardrails, and you see tire marks right before them
6. Dont go there on weekends. too many bicycles/bikes/choppers
7. ABSOLUTELY NO CELL PHONE RECEPTION.
8. Callbox ? Dont expect any.
9. Narrow 2 way road, hard to see on-coming traffic for right turns
That route is kinda dangerous. Some of the curves and turns are a little to tricky for unexperienced young drivers. I wouldn't recommend driving Calaveras in a large group. Just like the Livermore (back side) route to Mt. Hamilton.
One time (when I was younger) we got two cars: one at the start and one at the end. Both these cars had walkie talkies, and me and my buddy had walkies tuned to the same channel. We both raced, while the lookouts reported ANY cars. We would stop immediately.
It was one of the most memorable times of my life.
Remember, I would not recommend doing this, even if you block off start/end with walkies. Very Dangerous.
