I was changing timing belt/tensioner/bearing/water pump on a 1996 sc400. I aligned all the marks and made sure everything was in place. Started the car up, ran fine for 2 min. I decided to go around for a spin, as soon as I start leaving the drive way the car starts stuttering and driving like poo and check engine light came on. Now.... is this a symptom of setting the timing wrong? dist. rotors are not aligned right? I need to know ASAP.
Never will I perform a DIY timing belt on anything more than 4cyl.
Check the codes-- You may just find your problem by disconnecting one or the other coil wires from either/or distributor--- If I'm right, one will cause no change in the poor running, indicating a problem with ignition on that side, then work your way back from there-- could be a cam sensor with a bad connection, a coil that decided to go bad precisely when you decided to change the belt, or other things I can't think of right now, but you get the idea......
Lexus dealer, bought 2 of the cam sensor cost me a little over $300. You would think this would fix the problem no! im going crazy here. Check engine is still on spitting the same code, and sputtering. I disconnection the bank 1 cam sensor, and it runs fine! with the exception of the check engine light. Can someone please help, im digging into deep money here. id like to get this over with! thanks!
