Everytime i go off roading in the snow, and then get back on the highway, my steering wheel shakes violently. I understand its from packed snow in the wheels or wheel wells or something......but why has this only happened wiht this lexus?? Sequoia never did it, Eddie Bauer Explorer never did it, Tahoe never did it. Whats up?
Insure the bearings are greased and preloaded correctly. I have seen this with mud on a jeep and the extra weight stuck to the inner wheels causes excessive play in the bearings and the steering gear. And like mud, snow weighs and throws off the balance.
You might try removing the wheels and putting a good polish on the inner wheel. Then they would be less prone to sticking snow. I personally don't do snow.
Wheel bearings. They should be quiet, have a "slight" drag when turning the wheel, and no wabble up and side to side. Water from ice and snow migrates into the front hubs from the inside and displaces the grease. The bearings run dry and rust .
it's the design of the wheel. Take a look at the inside next time you're tire/wheel is off. There's a lot of room back there for snow and/or mud to find a temporary home.
I doubt it's a problem with wheel bearings if it only happens when you play in snow.

Kind of strange, the LC/LX has the best off road set-up around and then they start putting 18" wheels on the new ones and it screws up the interface of the LX/LC with the road.
