Throwing Fuel on Next-Generation LFA Rumors

While it’s completely unsubstantiated, we’re still going to allow ourselves the smallest, faintest bit of hope that this latest next-gen LFA rumor is true. According to Road & Track, who deciphered the wonky Google translation of the Japaneses site Response: the next-generation LFA will debut at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2019.

Response claims an unnamed European source says we can expect the new model will feature a 3.7 liter V8 working in conjunction with a hybrid system that will produce up to 800 horsepower, a hefty bump over the 560 hp first generation LFA. They also offer the photo above, a rendering of the possible new LFA by Fogilo Design.

In February, we reported that Lexus Europe boss Alain Uyttenhoven said the company wasn’t in any rush to replace the LFA, while noting that the car could instead serve as a design point of reference for the next 25 years. But he didn’t exactly pooh-pooh a next-generation LFA entirely: “For the future, who knows? I’m not saying we won’t do another LFA. I just don’t know. But I am certain that we will surprise you in the future with the cars we have planned … What the LFA taught us was that Lexus needs to be selling cars on emotional, not just rational, ideas.”

Well, it doesn’t get much more emotional than Lexus’s one and only halo car, the LFA. So fingers crossed!
