Lexus Working on a Host of Changes Across Its Lineup
Good portion of Lexus' current lineup looks to change in the coming years, according to a Toyota insider.
Changes Coming
Lexus had a pretty solid sales year in 2019, experiencing tremendous growth in certain parts of the globe. But if there's one criticism that's been levied at the automaker more than anything, it's that their current lineup is, well, a bit old. Lexus and Toyota are well aware of this, and apparently have a lot of changes in the works. At least, that's what a Toyota insider recently told Motor1.

Lexus GX
According to the insider, the Lexus GX SUV will remain unchanged a little bit longer - through 2022 at least. After that, a brand new replacement will arrive with a target launch for the 2023 model year. That's obviously good news for fans of the full-size luxury SUV.

Lexus LX
The Lexus LX continues to garner good reviews, even though it's a bit long in the tooth at this point. But it's reportedly going to receive some big changes in the near future. Toyota's insider revealed that the next LX, arriving in 2022, is going to be a "huge departure" from the current model, with Bentley-like luxury and a twin-turbo V6 hybrid powertrain.

Lexus LC F
We've been waiting what seems like forever for the F version of the LC to arrive, and apparently that's going to happen in 2022. And when it does, that car will come packing a twin-turbo V8, as previous rumors have suggested. Lexus, however, is planning on dropping V8 engines in its other vehicles that cost less than $90k.

Retirement Coming
Lexus isn't giving up on its passenger car, lineup, either. Well, sort of. The not terribly old LS will receive a refresh for 2022, according to our insider. As will the ES sedan. A new IS is reportedly coming for the 2021 model year, too. Sadly, however, the source reveals what we've been fearing for some time now - Lexus plans on retiring the GS, too.

Complete Overhaul
As sad as we are to see the GS go, it's understandable given the model's long sagging sales. And Lexus can then focus more of its efforts on hot-selling SUVs and crossovers like the UX, which is slated to get a facelift in 2022. That same model year will also bring a brand new NX riding on Toyota's new TGNA platform, which a new RX will also utilize in 2023 when it receives a complete redo as well.

Large Scale Effort
For Lexus fans, this is all good news. It seems like the automaker has put a large amount of effort into overhauling its entire lineup over the next couple of years. And we're obviously excited to see the results of that hard work hit the road in the coming months.
