Coming Soon

We've known for some time now that a new 2022 Lexus LX was on the way, and that fact was recently confirmed when the LX's twin - the Toyota Land Cruiser, received a complete overhaul. During the recent reveal of the 2022 Lexus NX, the automaker had the new LX on hand - but it was covered by a sheet. Regardless, we now know it won't be long before the new SUV is unveiled.

New Powerplant?

While the new Land Cruiser won't be sold in the U.S., the LX will be sold in America, and will likely be called the LX600, as we've previously reported. Unlike the current LX570, however, that nomenclature won't correspond with the vehicle's engine placement. In fact, it's highly likely that the LX will ditch its naturally-aspirated V8 for the new Land Cruiser's twin-turbo 3.5L V6.

Powertrain Rumors

In that guise, the engine makes 409 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque and is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission and standard four-wheel-drive. It's also possible that a hybrid powertrain - perhaps the 2022 Tundra's iForce Max - makes it way to the bit SUV as well.

Styling Differences

As far as styling goes, we can discern a few details from Lexus' shadowy teaser. The 2022 LX clearly retains much of the brand's signature styling cues, including a big spindle grille and L-shaped lighting, a big departure from the Land Cruiser, as was the case with the previous generation.

Staying the Course

The LX will continue to serve as a more upscale version of the more utilitarian Land Cruiser, with loads of chrome trim and luxurious trimmings inside the cabin. This is the way these two vehicles have always been positioned in the market, and that doesn't figure to change with the full redesign of both.

Down to One

Regardless, the current-gen Land Cruiser and LX are priced nearly the same, which is likely why the latter outsold the former by a considerable margin in the U.S. It also explains why Toyota decided to stop selling the beloved Land Cruiser in the states, even though a lot of folks won't be happy with that decision.

A Bit Longer

Regardless, those folks will still be able to get into this new platform by purchasing an LX when it launches, which is expected to happen in early 2022. However, we won't have to wait for nearly that long before Lexus reveals the 2022 LX in full.
