Advanced Offering

Over the years, Lexus has been working overtime evolving its safety technology, and with each passing model year, more and more tech gets added to its Safety System suite of advanced driver-assist features. The latest version of this is dubbed Lexus Safety System+ 3.0, and it's chock full of good stuff that owners will appreciate if they ever find themselves at risk of a crash.

Stay in Control

LSS+ first appeared on the 2016 RX crossover, and essentially serves three purposes - keeping a vehicle safely in its lane, detecting and mitigating frontal collisions, and enhancing safety during night driving situations. In everyday scenarios, the system is designed to help drivers prevent collisions and just generally maintain control of their vehicle.

Evolution

LSS+ 3.0 is the latest iteration of this tech, following up the original, 2.0, and 2.5 versions of the ADAS safety suite. Each version has essentially just offered improved and additional features, starting with the redesigned 2022 NX and quickly spreading to a variety of other updated products from the luxury brand.

New Features

The first new feature present in LSS+ 3.0 is dubbed Risk Avoidance Emergency Steer Assist, which helps brake and steer the vehicle if the driver makes an evasive maneuver in an attempt to avoid a crash. Additionally, Left Turn Oncoming Vehicle Detection Braking runs the driver and applies the brakes if needed when turning left in front of an approaching vehicle.

Right & Left Turn Oncoming Pedestrian Detection & Braking works similarly, applying the brakes if needed when the driver turns in front of a pedestrian or cyclist. Oncoming Vehicle Detection works with the vehicle's pre-collision system to apply the brakes when a potential front crash is detected, too.

Enhanced Feature

Finally, Adaptive Cruise Control with Curve Speed Management takes an older, well-known feature and enhances it by allowing the vehicle to maintain a constant speed in corners - not just a straight line.

Availability

Currently, LSS+ 3.0 is available on a couple of new Lexus products, including the 2022 NX and 2023 RX. However, it will eventually make its way across the entire lineup as new product launches take place, though it's also a safe bet that Lexus isn't done developing its ADAS features, either.
