Not a carbon copy

The Lexus RC F Track Edition is the Japanese brand's most precise driver's car. It takes the RC platform and adds a few small details, which make a big difference. Most noticeable is the composite roof and hood, which manage to save 176lb of weight. And performance gains through lightness, are always a good thing.

1. Winged wonder

Unlike the standard RC F, the Track Edition car features a factory fitted rear wing. This fixed composite aerodynamic aid is not optional. It features sideblades and actually provides functional downforce at speed, instead of being merely cosmetic in nature.

2. Track Precision

True to its name, the RC F Track Edition isn't shy of attending a circuit day or two. The carbon bits that make it lighter mean there is less brake fade, even after a lap or two of diving deep into hairpins. The lower center of gravity, thanks to its carbon roof, means improved lateral agility too.

3. An all natural V8

In a world where most rivals are powered by turbocharged engines, the RC F Track Edition keeps it traditional with an atmospheric V8. Swept capacity is a tidy 5-liters and peak power is 472hp. The appeal of this naturally-aspirated V8 is its linear nature, and the ability to keep running on a surge of power in one gear.

4. Street cred

To ensure it has the required curbside posing appeal, Lexus have upgraded the RC F Track Edition's wheels to 19-inch forged hoops, from famed motorsport wheel builder BBS. Hiding behind those wheels are some serious stoppers. The Track Edition has carbon-ceramic brakes, which should provide corner after corner of fade-free deceleration.

5. Red is for racing

Red is faster, right? Well, Lexus has made this car's cabin as scarlet as they can, to get your mind racing the moment you settle in the bucket seats. The red cabin features Alcantara details and as with any Lexus, standard equipment levels are very generous and comfort levels are high.

6. Launch Control

How quick is this Track Edition version of the Lexus RC F? With its rowdy V8 engine and lighter mass, you'd expect it to be quick off the line. The eight-speed automatic transmission combines with a launch control function to get this Lexus from 0-60mph in 3.96 seconds.

7. A Lexus Full of Personality

Perhaps the greater aspect of the RC F Track Edition's driving appeal is not outright speed or acceleration statistics. What makes this Lexus such a soulful driver's car, is how it combines classic rear-wheel-drive dynamics with naturally-aspirated V8 power. If you have the skills, it will slide as much as you want it to.
