Keeping It Fresh

The Lexus RX has been on sale since 1998, with the current fourth-generation model debuting back in 2015. Lexus has constantly updated its popular mid-size luxury crossover over the years, however, including its most recent refresh, which happened back in 2019. Keeping with that tradition, the 2022 RX has received a few updates as well that should help keep it fresh for yet another model year.

Small Changes

On the outside, the 2022 Lexus RX offers two new exterior colors - Cloudburst Gray and Iridium, while fog lamps are now available as a standalone option rather than something that required additional choices to acquire. Otherwise, it carries over unchanged in terms of looks.

Tech Features

On the inside, the 2022 RX comes with a standard 8-inch or available 12.3-inch touchscreen dashboard display, Amazon Alexa, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay connectivity, a 3-year Lexus Remote trial, six USB ports, Dynamic Voice Command, and the latest version of the Lexus Multimedia System.

Driving Dynamics

In terms of driving dynamics, the RX features hollow front and rear stabilizer bars to reduce weight, with thicker diameters and reinforced bushings to help reduce body roll and improve steering response. The shock absorbers work with stiffer roll bars, while upgraded dampers feature a new friction control device that helps to control high-frequency vibrations for a smoother ride. The stiff suspension design reduces noise and vibration, while active corner braking helps prevent understeering by braking in the inner tire and providing more stability.

Safety

Lexus Safety Connect and Service Connect trials are included with every RX purchase. The vehicle itself comes equipped with Lexus Safety System+ 2.0 as standard equipment, which features daytime bicyclist detection, low-light pedestrian detection, Road Sign Assist (RSA), Lane Tracing Assist (LTA), Pre-Collision System (PCS) with daytime bicyclist detection, Road Sign Assist (RSA), Lane Tracing Assist (LTA), All-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, and Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert.

Hybrid Power

The 2022 RX 450hL's roots can be traced back to the first hybrid RX, which launched over a decade ago. Today's version offers up 308 combined system horsepower and an estimated 29 combined mpg rating. The Lexus Hybrid Drive system pairs the automaker's 3.5-liter V6 gasoline engine with two high-torque electric drive motor-generators for strong acceleration while the all-weather drive system employs a second, independent electric motor to drive the rear wheels when needed to help maintain optimal traction.

Pricing and Availability

Lexus hasn't yet announced pricing or said when the 2022 RX will officially launch, but we expect it to remain around the current $45k starting price. Meanwhile, the latest RX should go on sale later this year.
