OK. I know it's ugly, but that doesn't matter. This taped together box let me do low-risk test fits. It didn't want to use the amp for several reasons, including I don't want to risk dropping it onto the glass window when the top was partially down.

The silver and black bars end up being key reference points The amp should be just below them, and there needs to be clearance behind the amp to allow clearance for part of the rear deck when it pivots as the top goes up and down. f

Turns out this location is perfect! Th bottom has to clear the two black bumpers at the bottom that the window frame rests on. It has to go in front of the sliver bar, to allow clearance for the rear deck to pivot. Right where it is, it clears everything fine. I'll flip it over, so that it's not upside down.

Amp test fit. Used zip ties and bungee cord to angle bottom edge of amp in so that it clears glass window and frame. Black rubber bump stops serve as the frame of reference.

What do you know.... a factory hole in the back of the trunk that hold the 8" sub for those who have the ML system. (I don't)

Here's the sub... It's good. Very good. It doesn't hit HARD... but it does an outstanding job of filling out the low end to give you full music with a good, clean sound. Will you "feel the bass" thump? Nope. But it's much better than many other solutions, an it's really compact.

Inputs! You can cut RCA cables, splice 'em into the factory high level output, and run 'em into this amp... just don't forget to flip the switch to "high level" inputs. The amp is rated for up to 10 volts for the high level input. Maybe I'll try to get a reading with a digital multimeter... I guess I'd need to tap in to the line as it drives the speakers, and out the meter in A/C mode... Maybe it'll work (or maybe not)... but the reading would be the RMS... not the peak.

Power, power, power! Ever wonder why you can buy an amp for $50 that puts out 1000 watts? Easy... THEY LIE! Here's what I look at... the fuses on the amp. Engineers choose the fuse size... not the marketing guys. This amp consumes an upper bound of 60 amps total. At 13.5 volts, that would mean that the amp could continuous consume up tp 810 watts of power.

A decent Line Output Converter. It will take the high-level outputs from the factory amp, let me adjust the levels and clean up the bass, and then provide me with good, clean line-level RCA feeds to send in to my Alpine Amp. For any of these devices, I'll need to understand which channels, if any get summed, and which are left as-is, or if that is configurable.

Here's the LOC that I can "borrow" to try out.... It has a bunch of settings, including eq settings for each input, which is nice to tune the sound to match what you like.

I have one with a dual voice coil, I don't recall how many ohms each voice is, but it doesn't really matter. For example, if they are 4 ohms each, then I'll wire it up as an 8 ohm load. I don't want to drive my sub as a 2 ohm load. I think it's too taxing on the amp.
