I don't really understand what it really mean 3-piece rims. My understanding is 3 pieces are made separately then put it together into making one rim? Please correct me I'm wrong.. If my understanding is right, i wanna get a this used rim from a place, and he say it 3-piece. The only bad side is that the lip of the rim has lots of scratches. So i was wondering if i can replace that lip or someone can tell me a place to replace the lip.

 

Yes, it is 3 pieces that are bolted together to make one wheel. If you have pictures of the curb rash, post them up. A wheel repair shop would probably be able to fix without having to disassemble the wheel (extra $$). I don't think you need to replace the outer barrel unless it was damaged beyond repair. Curb rash usually doesn't qualify as "unfixable."

 

It was my understanding that while they have a 3 piece construction, they are still welded in the middle

 

from my understanding, the barrel is 2 pcs + the face = 3 pcs

2 pcs = barrel + face

 

yep, true 3pc wheels are NOT welded together, 2pc wheels sometimes use 1pc cast barrel+face or a 2pc barrel that is welded together which the face bolts to (still only 2 separatable pieces.)

 

so 1 piece face and 1 piece inner barrel and 1 piece outter barrel do not constitute a 3pc wheel? real at that? i don't get it please explain so i understand this whole thing
