yes, you are right. the higher the offset, the more the wheels go INward

The positive offset is too high, which results in jamming the wheels in closer to the suspension.

Rom,

When you said

What do you mean by rubbing? you mean rubbing the fenders right? Going from a +26 to a +36 will sticks the wheels IN more (closer to the suspension....and further away from the fenders).

The thing is....I don't *think* I want a staggered set up (for rotation purposes)....unless someone here convinces me that tire-life is almost the same regardless whether you rotate or not.

I do like the staggered look, but just worried about uneven wear without rotation (I know I know, I can still rotate if I unmount the tires).

I want a very conservative setup. I don't every want to rub. I plan to drop the car using either Eibach/Bilstein or Tein CS. I don't want to go over 18s since I live in the pothole infested streets of NYC.

What do you guys think is a nice conservative setup? 18x8F and 18x9R?

Thx for the help.
actually, with 8, if you want a nice look, per what i said, get 32, NOT 36. with 36 that's effectively like 8.5 +42, that's even more conservative (inward) than my old wheels (8.5 +38).

and you can go without staggered that's no problem, but you stil have to worry about the front. basically if a wheel fit in the front, it fits in the back. but a wheel fitting in the back might not fit the front. so imho, if you REALLy want to go with 8, try to get 32. NOT 36....

again, i said 8 +32, NOT 36, damnit if i am right, the stock wheels are 8 +50 offset, so you can imagine that 8 +45 is still very conservative

What do you guys think? Should I get a staggered setup? 18x9 in the rear? Or will 18x8 all the way around be OK? Will it look funny?

I'm new to wheels & suspension. Any/all advice will be greatly appreciated.

The seller is looking for $1,300. I'm not sure if it's worth it or not. If I'm patient, do you think I can get better wheels/tires (that'll fit better) for $1,300 (used of course)?
yup 44 will fit no problem, but just not THAT good.

about the staggered setup, well, it's up to you, to me staggered is so much better, peformance and look. yes it wears out tires and you can't rotate, but when you are spending so much money on wheels, tires should be a no-issue

Sorry, I should have read what you posted instead of what Cadd wrote. We both just perpetuated the wrong number. As for the offset, I'll have to look close at my wheels next time. I know they are not flushed but I did not think I had that much extra room there.

Ok, everyone ignore what I said about +36.

I just used +36 as an example.

Anyway, let me ask you offset experts another hypothetical question:

Just say I put on an 18x8 +32 in the front.

Now, for some strange reason, I want to go with 15" wheels. I go out and buy me some 15x8 +32 for the front.

Since both of these wheels are 8 inch wide with the same offset, they both should mount on with no problems right? They should be identical in terms of how it sits in the wheel well, right?

Again, hypothetically, if the 18x8 +32 rim is 5mm away from the fender and 8mm away from the suspension, the 15x8 +32 rim should be the same right?

first, question, how do you get the number that 18x8 +32 it will be 5mm from fender and 8mm from suspension?! by suspension what do you mean? the springs and shocks? if so i can tell you there are way more than 8mm.

anyway, yes, offset is just related to width of wheels, nothing to do with diameter. provided that you get the right size of tires it would be the same.

however, 15 won't fit on the gs though, too small to fit over the rotors i believe?

Rominl,

You just answered my question.

You were wondering how I got 5mm from the fender and 8mm from the suspension....very simple....I made those numbers up.

It was just a hypothetical question.

Thanks.
