I Scuffed Up A Wheel Rim
Minor damage to the left rear wheel. I took it to the place that powder coated my Miata wheels and according to them they can't repair this type of wheel because of the way it's machined - didn't quite understand that part.
Because it's minor, I'm thinking of getting some touch up paint and blending in the scratched area. Is there a way to buff out the rough area with a small palm sander or should I just leave it alone and fill-in with paint?

machined wheels require a lathe to regrind then are cleared over. they're probably a basic shop that doesn't have the tools or experience. talk to a body shop and ask them where they sub out their wheel repairs. machined wheels are super common today (pretty much all new vehicles) and so this is a simple every day repair for a body shop. When my machined CT200h F Sport OEM wheels are damaged in an accident, the body shop subbed it out to a shop that charged $150 for the repair. i was skeptical the wheel would come back looking OEM but to my surprise it looked 100% new and high quality.
you can only do a certain amount of regrinds though as grinding the face of the wheel makes it slightly smaller as you are removing material. can usually do it a couple times before it gets too thin.
