Default Changed oil, feel like I am driving a different SUV

So i just hit 1500 mi on my TX550h+. I decided it was good to just change the oil to keep the engine longevity. After much research i settled on the Valvoline restore and protect 0w20. Went in for a quick oil change. 1st thing - oil levels from factory were low. 2nd, after the oil change the car is running so much smoother (likely the oil type) and I am exceeding MPG when on gas only.is around 32-33 on city on my first full tank.

Anyone else experience this?

Did you take it to the Lexus dealer for this service and what did they charge you? I get free oil changes for life but not sure if my dealer will change oil at 1,500 mile. Julst got my 2026 TX500H and now have 900 miles.

I think Lexus mentioned that free oil change is at 10K miles for 1 time only. They can check and rotate tires at 5K miles.

I think 0W-20 is the normal oil weight used in these cars. So, hard to see why there would be any difference. Let alone one you could feel.

I do believe that thinner oils are known to improve gas mileage slightly. This is one reason oil recommendations for the same cars and engines sold in the USA are for lighter oils then other countries. Helps to meet gas mileage requirements. Unfortunately at the expense of engine life. But of course this also depends on how the car is used. I would assume lighter oils are better for cars driving relatively short distances with more engine starts, since the lighter oil will provide better protection while the engine warms up. I.E., in the end it depends.

If there really is a difference you can feel, I'd be surprised it's from an oil change. More likely something else was effected. Especially if you had it done at the dealership. Perhaps they did a firmware update while they had it?

As long as its the right weight oil and of good quality synthetic stock, there should be zero difference in drivability between oil brands. A low oil level could be problematic and a sign of oil consumption (a low level is not a good sign at just 1500 miles). Regardless, I suspect the engine is breaking in as MPG tends to increase between 1,000 and 10,000 miles on all the Lexus and Toyotas I've had - generally by about 10%. There is also the possibilty that some debris was cleared out of the V6, which has had issues with this in the past. Keep an eye on oil levels - hopefully the rings seat and seal better and the car continues to improve. Please let us know how this goes. Happy Holidays!
