Thoughts on Dunlop SP Sport A2
Today I had a flat on the freeway. The interesting thing was that I barely felt anything happen. I was doing the average speed of freeways here in SoCal (80 mph ) The only thing that got my attention was the 'unusual' noise intruding into the cabin, so untypical of the LS. After like 30s, I figured something had to be wrong. Turned out it was the left rear tire. By the time I rolled to a stop on the side of the road, the tire was in shreds.
I decided I had to change all four Continental. I have never had any problems with them, but after 20K miles, I just wanted something else. The options I had at the tire shop was very limited. As I am stuck with a car with blown tire, and my spare down on air (due to lack of use in 3 years of ownership), I had to get a set fitted. I chose the Dunlop SP Sport A2 in the stock size.
I don't know if I am being too sensitive, but the tire seemed a little noisy to me. More than anything, I want a very QUIET riding tire. Does anyone have this tire, and what can say about it ? I am thinking of living with it for no more than 1 week, after which I may take it back and get another set put on. But which set will be better ?
Ideas, help, pls ?

Could be that those thirty people have never had either tire. Myself, I have had no experience with the Continentals but I just put the A2's on my '90LS and I absolutely LOVE them! I had Michelins before that. The Dunlops are super sticky in the wet and not too shabby on dry roads either. I was looking for a quiet ride I did a LOT of research before selecting the A2's and I feel they are the best value.

never had the tire. wasn't gonna respond, but i've been in your shoes, so heres my $.02
only dunlop tire i have had is sp6000. great tread life. listen to music loud enough that i can't
say if it's a quiet tire. currently have bfg kdws- good all season tire. average performance in all
weather conditions.

I just bought 4 SP A2's for my wife's 95 LS400. My choice was based on performance on wet roads since she is very nervous about hydroplanning and the A2's, according to various reviews, are very good on wet roads. I believe that the tires are H (138 MPH) rated. These tires seem to be a good compromise for performance, noise, and traction. I paid $504 for the 4 at Discount Tire with tax and all.

Thanks
to everyone for your responses. I will live with the A2 for now. My research shows it isn't that bad of a tire among the Dunlop brands, it certainly isn't the quietest, but will do the job.
Thanks all.
Thanks all.
