Wheel Offset, and tire size relative to wheel size
I am just learning this stuff, but I see that all the aftermarket wheels I am interested in require that you specify an offset.
1. Does anyone know what size wheels came on a 1996 SC4 and what the offset was?
2. Can someone explain what "offset" means and what range of offset can fit on a SC4?
3. Is there a calculation as to how big a tire one can put on say a 7" wheel vs. 7.5" vs. 8"? I am not asking about those specific sizes but is there an overall calculation to determine what is the range of tire size for a given wheel size?
Thanks in advance.

Try here
www.tirerack.com they have a very good explanation of offset and wheel sizing. If you go into a specific tire and click on the link to "specs" it will give you a size chart that displays the +1/-1 sizing of tires and what tires fir what size range (width) rims and what it does to the overall contact patch and overall diameter of the tire. Also, the SEARCH function here is a big help too.
