what size tire should I buy? Help!
Hey Gents,
I need to get new tires for my 1991 Ls 400, however it has 2002 is300 rims on it. The front currently has 215/45/R17 and the rear has 235/45/R17. I am looking to get the smoothest ride possible, and the guy at the tire shop keeps telling me I need to find stock rims because the diameter is a different size and tire will not fix the feel of the ride. I really just want to put new safe lasting tires on it. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

245/45-17 or 225/50-17
You need to find a new tire shop if they are that dumb... you have much lower profile tires on the front of that car... they are a different diameter than stock, but because they are smaller...
235/45-17 all around will work, but if you are looking for a smoother ride, I would do 225/50-17. This size will still be wider than the factory tire, yet have as much sidewall as possible for that wheel diameter...

Smoothest possible (as related to tires) will generally be the one with the tallest sidewall.
