Are these supposedly "brand new" wheels defective ?
I bought these 20" oem style wheels on ebay (not a vendor here), and upon removing one from the box I noticed this "krinkle" looking defect on the barrel.
Do you guys think it's safe to use ?
I took it to the wheel shop and the balancing machine results came out to 0.20 / 2.50
the other 3 non defective wheels came out to 0.50 / 1.50 on the balancing machine.
the ebay store that i bought it from is saying this is "standard" in the industry and that the "tire" will cover it up and you will not see it when the tires are on. I bought and sold many new and used wheels and I've never seen such a defective product out of the box, new used or even repaired.
I don't mind pounding on the weights to balance it out but safety is a big concern. I don't want to hit a small, standard road bump and have the wheel crack.
what u guys think ?

I wouldn't be worried about the weight imbalance either, and that wheel should be fine, but, it is brand new... it looks to me more like it was dropped or something...
The only (non destructive) way to tell if the wheel is structurally sound is to x-ray it and/or use a dye penetrant to check for cracks... this would require removal of any paint from the wheel prior to testing (for the dye test)
