Default Need schooling.....what do I need to know for big rims?

Hey everybody, I want to put a set of Vossens on my IS250 RWD Manual, but I just dont know where to start. So heres the deal......

I want to put 20's on front and back and see I can have 9" in front and 10.5" on back. I also will probably only be able to do rims this summer and then the following summer coilovers. My questions are:

1. As far as offset is concerned..... is that a factor of how you apply the rims to the car or is it part of the rim....basically do I have to preorder the rim with the offset?....
2. I want a mild drop later on so what offset is good for front and back?
3. Tire size I really have no idea. Should I get a mild stretch just in case I want to drop it low or just go with a proper fitting tire?

Thank you guys for helping me out.....

Offset is the distance from the mounting surface of the wheel, center part of the face that you bolt to the hub of the car, to the centerline of the wheel. Here is a link showing how you can measure offset, backspacing, and some basic info on fitment. The website has some good useful basic information throughout. When you go to order wheels they will generally ask you what car you have to figure out offset and everything for you. Sometimes they just take what you want without any questions but most will be able to help with fitment. For your car you can run a high 30s to 40s offset up front with a 20x9 wheel and for the rear you can go anywhere from ~30 to ~50. I don't feel you really want to slam/stretch/camber the setup so you could run a more aggressive offset/tire without much concern. For tires a 275/30 can work in back and a 245/30 up front. If you want Vossens I think you will want to run a 20x9 with +38 offset up front and 20x10.5 with +45 offset in back. I want to say all their wheels in those sizes are available in those offsets. Hope that helps.

Meh stupid thing well here are a couple. They all say the same basic thing though.

http://www.americanracingwheelsinfo....eel_offset.htm
And this one is an offset calculator. It will tell you how your new wheel will fit compared to the old one.

Vossen wheels with the +38 front and +45 rear offsets will work just fine. If I'm not mistaken you will need to roll your fenders but they will work. I'm sure you have seen them on IS 2/3 50's on the Vossen wheel galleries.

I'm not sure what tire size you should go with but you can PM Jav@Vossen since they are a vendor and find out with no problem. You are making a great choice going with Vossens. I have the VVS 078 blk and machined and couldn't be happier. Well I guess If I made my Choice now I would go with the VVS 085, similar but a little cleaner in my opinion.
