Default Is clear coat neccessary after wheel repair?

I'm going to get the face and lip of my rims re-polished. Do I need to add a clear coat? I hear that living in California it is not necessary.

What the pros and cons off the clear coat?

Thanks all!

pro = no polishing needed

con = not as shiny, more likely to discolor and chip
con = if it chips, then you have to have it cleared again

pro for leaving them polished = if they start to get dull, all ya gotta do is polish them
con = if they get dull, they get ugly until you polish them...

the alternative I plan to use is called Zoop Seal it is a coating that seals the aluminum from oxidation and is supposed to last about a year available from Summit Racing
