Thickest tires for Stock 17s
Hey guys,
Its that time of year and I need to get new tires for my stock 17s before winter comes. I just installed the tein cs v2 and dropped them practically all the way. But, my main concern is the thickness of the tires. I know the stock tire size for the 17s are 235/45/17. Can anyone inform me on any wider or thicker tires? The bigger the better. Any input on how the ride is and rubbing issues would be great!!! Thanks

You actually want to have skinnier tires more than thicker if you're looking to drive in the winter time. The thicker the tire, the worse traction it will have in the snow. I'd stay stock or even go with a 225/45/17...
But if you're still looking for upsizing, use this chart at 1010 tires for some info as to what you can use. As long as you stay within 3% of the overall diameter you should be in good shape

I've got 235/45/17s on my car because that's what came as standard with the normal Lexus 17" five spoke wheel.
But, I feel 235/45s look a bit too skinny with these wheels. I don't want the tires to stick out too far but I would like them to be slightly fatter than the wheel itself. Most tires have that ridge where it mounts to the tire so that if you do get near the curb, the tire hits first, not the rim.
I normally don't want to change the profile size (235s in this case) but I would like to change the actual width. What size tire do you guys recommend to achieve the look I want?

I'm looking for tires that are wider but have the same profile or height between road and rim. 225s are not as wide as 235s so I'm thinking I need at least 245s.
Probably next time I will go with 245/45/17s. 245/40/17s may be even more what I'm looking for.

UMP's
I would say the the exclaim UHPs are by far IMO the best bang for the buck. In some reviews it is rated at #1 for street performance and it is almost half the price. I have found them to have great performance and have not found any negatives with them. I run 235/35/19 and 275/30/19. They look good too. I can hardy hear them at all.

Well, not really noticably in my opinion. It is a little bit taller tire, because the 45 is the aspect ratio of the width, so since the 245 is 10mm wider than the 235 but with the same aspect ratio there is a little bit more rubber but not much.

trust me, I thought the same thing, cheap, good reviews... I sold them with less than 1000 miles on them on ebay and bought the BFG KDW's... 20-25% faster cornering speeds and a much more stable feeling...
