Good A/S performance tires
I need a new set of tires for my GS430 and I was set on the Continental Conti Extreme Contact but they are backordered for 4-6 weeks at every place and a couple people were saying they flatspot in cold temps pretty bad. Tirerack recommended the Avon Tech M550 or the Kumho Ecsta ASX for similiar performance and Discount tires gave me a good price and rec. for the Kumho Ecsta ASX. Do you guys have any experience with these tires or recommend something else. I want a all season tire that handles well in all conditions, will perform decently in rain and snow and will last 40-50K miles if maintained right but does not cost a arm and leg. My size is 235/45/17 Thanks

I also have a 430 with same tire size and went with the RE960 A/S. $155 per - a $75 rebate. I do 24,000 miles/yr. I am happy with them so far. Not noisy. Good grip and are supposed to be great in the rain. My 430 doesn't see the rain if I can help it. So far no problems once I got one road forced balanced. Now I feel the slight imperfections in the others. I don't know if you think this is an arm and a leg but they were very highly rated. I look at it this way. I spend $100 on my sneakers and they won't cost me thousands or my life if I slip when I wear them. I feel tires are the most important safety feature of a high performance car like the 430 and a few feet could mean a big difference.

Search through tirerack for the Continental Conti Extreme Contact. Look specifically for 2nd Gen GS. There is a lot of negative feedback on them.
I have the Bridgestone RE960 AS pole positions 245/50R16 on stock rims. They are an amazing tire and they DO perform very well in the rain. They didn't do to bad in the snow either. I did change them out for my snows though.
I've had them on for over a year 15K and they barely look worn.

My recommendations for someone that wants a good all season tire are:
Bridgestone RE960A/S
Michelin Pilot Sport A/S
and BFG just released a brand new tire the G-Force Super Sport A/S - it replaces the KDWS and the promo video we were shown in snow was amazing... they outfitted the same car with an assortment of tires, and the Super Sport A/S had the best start / stop traction... Although there is no history of it, it outperforms the KDWS in all aspects, and the KDWS was always a good all-season performer...
If you want to be cheap, however, the only tire worth looking in to is the Kumho ASX...I ran a set for a while - not very good ride, not very quiet, but decent wet/dry traction, and from what I hear, decent snow traction as well...

Take a look at the Toyo Proxes 4 too. 1010tires lists reviews and you can get a good feel what others think of different tires. similar to what tirerack does ... here's a link for you. But buy from edgeracing.com they have the best prices period.

Do not get the Avon's!
I bought some for my wife's Volvo wagon and they wore out faster than a knock-off concert t-shirt bought in the parking lot. I was only able to get 14K and I am religious about rotation and air pressure.
I have been putting on Yoko V4S for the past 4 years and really like them. I can get about 35K and they only get noisy and squirrelly right at the end. I live in Houston and we drive alot of miles and a high percentage in the rain and I truly trust these tires.
I did get a set of Kumhos for the Volvo and so far they seem pretty good.

Between the Kumho Ecsta ASX and the ContiExtreme Contact, does anyone know which has the most stable cornering characteristics (both dry and wet)? I don't drift in my SC or anything, but I have had some near accidents involving sudden hydroplaning (damn Oklahoma roads) and I need my next tires to lose grip smoothly, not all at once. I had Kumho's on my 240sx and they were awesome, but I think they were the AST's not the ASX.
Also, I know it's not available on Tire Rack, but does anyone have experience with the new Falken Ziex ZE-912? Someone recommended them to me for wet/snow traction, but he didn't say anything about ride quality or noise.
