Calling all wheel experts! 285/30/20?
I currently have the 19" fat setup, and will hopefully be going to 20s soon.
I will miss my fat setup, as I have crashed over many-a-pothole, and never had a bent rim.
But it's time for me to move to 20s, and then pray that I learn how to dodge the potholes better.
I definitely want a full tire on whatever 20" rim I get, meaning I don't want the stretch look at all.
The debate I am having is whether I should go with a 275/30/20 (the standard on a 20), or the slightly taller and wider 285/30/20...for a little more meat.
Does anyone have 20" rims with 285/30/20? If so, please post a picture. I'm trying to see how much more sidewall protection this larger tire affords you as compared to 275/30/20.
Also, does anyone know how much taller the 285/30/20 is going to be as compared to my current fat setup? I believe the diameter of my current 19" fat setup is even taller than a 20" with 285/30/20, but I am not certain.
I think Rominl started a thread a long while ago that showed all the specific tire diameters depending on the rim size and the tire size, but I couldn't find it.
Oh yeah, this is for 20X10 in the rear...

OOPS! Forgot to share the width: 10" in the rear.
Fenders aren't rolled, but I can if it's necessary. Does fender rolling make a difference going from the 275 to the 285?

Tire profile will depend on the different tire manufacturer. You can have a 275 look "more meaty" than a 285 (with a different tire brand) on the same size wheel. I had a set of 285/30/20 Dunlop SP900 on a 20x9.5 wheel that looked skinnier than some other brand 275/30/20 on a 20x10 wheel.
285/30/20(Dunlop) on a 20x9.5
275/30/20(BFG) on a 20x10
275/35/19 = 26.57
285/30/20 = 26.73
285/30/20(Dunlop) on a 20x9.5
275/30/20(BFG) on a 20x10
275/35/19 = 26.57
285/30/20 = 26.73

Thanks Aristo and Indio.
Aristo, thanks a bunch for that diameter calculation. Seems to be VERY close.
I like Indio's 285/30/20 looks nice and meaty, so I'm leaning towards that. Indio, what kind of tires are those?
