Default tires... which size??

here's the setup: 1998 GS400, not lowered... getting Axis Hiro staggered setup in 19", offset probably looking at +38, hucentric rings for common vibration problem... looking for fat setup since i'm in NYC (potholes, bumps... bubbles in the low profiles are common for my boss's Z4).

i'm looking at Dunlop SP Sport Maxx at 245/40/19...
ORRRRRRRRR
at 245/35/19

i understand the 40 has some rubbing issues? might have to foll fenders... but my car isn't lowered so i shouldn't expect it (confirm that). with offset at +38?

or do i need to go with 35s to avoid rolling of fenders and avoid rubbing.

just worried about rubbing and fenders. more worried about fenders actually. i doin't want to touch them. unless i REALLY REALLY have to thanks!

Can you be little more specific about your set up?

What is the width of the 19" wheels? Is it stagger set up?

245-35-19, 245-40-19, 255-35-19 (They all would be OK)

you should be good, might still rub a bit if you hit bit dip, but shouldn't be anything major

Good info, here is a similar question:

01 GS430, Stock suspension; want a bit of thicker tire look to fill wells and keep cushy ride; I know 245/40 18 and 25.7" OD is the target tire size and I run those and also have run 255/40 at 26" OD as well with success;

Question is how about 245/45 18 tire on 2nd Gen GS? Note that this is on an 18x9 rim all around, the OD of tire is affected by wheel width so this will help draw it down, the measuring rim width on the 26.7" figure was 8".

Incorrect... Tire diameter is not changed at all by wheel width, not on a steel belted radial tire at least... tire section width is changed by wheel width..

Hmmmm good point.. must be just a visual thing then, the sidewall lays over or rolls, etc when a given tire say 245 is put on a 7", 8" or 9" rim, it just seemed different OD.. but of course the belts are what they are... thanks!
