Default 20's Tire question

I'm lookin at 20x8.5 wheels for my GS and I'm debating about the tire size - I'm not a big fan of the rubber band sidewalls. The recommended tire - everyone seems to have is 245/35-20 but I was wondering if can put a beefier tire on like 255/35 or 245/40 without scrubbing since I have 1.5" drop on my GS.. Any help will be greatly appreciated..!!

definitely not 245/40, that's way overall (2" overspec from stock diameter), very bad idea. you can do 255/35 easy, as long as you don't get to aggressive offset

Thanks Rominl for advice! I really apreciated it..

I've always try to say within stock rolling diameter specs with 18's and 19's.. this is the first time I'm venturing past it.. I love the look of 20's but i'm trading the fact of going over specs for more bling as you say.. From what I seen- everyone's 20's are one inch off the ground separated by the rubber band.. Ever since I went down to an 18" wheel with 245-40 Tires - I have loved the ride so - i thought maybe if its not too bad - I can do it on my 20's..

And 2nd if 245/40 is a bad idea then 255/35 is okay then which offset would be too low - i'll just tell you the wheels i'm considering - I like the Donz Columbo (I'm getting all 4 : 20x8.5) Thanks again!!

actually if you want to stay within spec, you need to use 245/30/20. not sure if that's a good idea, i wouldn't do it on my car. i have 245/35/20 (1" overspec overall) and i am very happy.
