Newbie's wheel question
Hello boys!
I recently bought a 1991 LS400 from my 'rents. It's a nice car, but I'd like to put some nice wheels on it, ya know?
I was wondering if you can help me out. On tirerack.com the 91's only can have 19" wheels, but the 93's can have 20's. Odviously I want 20's if I can use them.
Why wont tire rack let you buy 20's for a 91? What's different between the 1991 and 1993? Will 20's fit on a 91 anyway? If you have some shots of a 1991 on 20" wheels I'd love to see them.
Thanx.
Oh, and will 20's make it ride a lot worse- I like how smooth it is now.

Welcome aboard
My guess for tirerack's reasoning is this... our year came with 15's. The '93-'94 models had upgraded 16" wheels and since they increased the wheel size by 1" in the '93-'94 models, tirerack assumed they could fit wheels that were an inch larger.
And yes, 20's will make it ride worse. 18's would be ideal if you want to improve looks while maintaining a comfortable ride. Also keep in mind that the brand and size of tires along with the weight of the wheels will also play a role in ride quality.
You can get 20's to fit on your '91, but it will require some modifications to your fenders and wheel well lining.
As for pics of LS's on 20's...check the gallery

and also try an advanced search in the LS400 forum and uncheck the box for 'search in parent directory' option. Here's a couple I found to get you started.
