Recommended Winter tire size for 02 SC430?
I talked a close friend into buying a Lexus and he eventually bought a 2002 SC430! Black on black with Navi and run flats! He picked it up at beginning of last week.
The sales guy at the local Lexus dealer had the winter tires/wheels from the previous owner for sale and they are 225/60 - 16 in size.
Are these a recommended size?
My friend is concerned that they are not the recommended size and the Lexus dealer may or may not refuse some warranty related work if he goes with this wheel/tire size.
Can someone please confirm this based on facts? Thanks!
He can get the wheel/tire package for a good deal ($800 Canadian ~ US$655.00). The wheels are a six spoke wheel (not those ugly black steel rims that most people put on their car in the winter) and the tires have a good 2 seasons in them. Even though winter is almost over, it may be worth buying them if there is no potential issue with warranty related work.

if i remember right the stock size tires on the sc430 is 245/40/18. the overall diameter is about 25.7. the 225/60/16, the overall diamter is about 26.6 i think.
it's less than an inch difference. i think it's relatively ok.
and aside from that, how can that void warranty?! i mena, i have 20s and it's ok (not like i have warranty still, but i dn't see how dealership can blame stuff on my 20s)

As for the wheels, isn't your friend planning to get the winter wheels from the local Lexus dealer? How would that mess with the warranty unless that dealer is selling the wheels with some disclaimer.

Gotcha. Well, in that case, as long as the diameter is close and the rims clear the brakes, he is good to go. For reference, the GS had a couple of tire sizes on 16s. The sporty one was 225/55/16 with OD = 25.7. The "comfort" size was 215/60/10 with OD = 26.2. I know these are for the GS but the two have similar OEM tire OD.
