Default Polishing scratched rims?

Hi everyone,

I've searched the forums, but have not found a thread on this topic (I've found plenty on bent rims, though).

As you can guess, I have managed to scrape my rims on the curb more than once, due to the lack of tire bulge on the Bridgestone runflats.

Does anybody have advice on polishing out the scratches? Can I just get some sandpaper and buff them out, or will this damage the finish of the rims (which is technically already damages)?

Thanks for any advice!

if i am correct, the rims have clear coat and sanding them will only make it worse (unless you sand the whole wheel). i guess your best bet is to just send your wheels in to wheel shop for repair

It all depends if you got a clear coat on there. If yes...you'll have to determine if the scratch had reached the metal yet, or just the clear coat. If it reached the metal...it'll be tough to polish...I'd suggest having a professional strip the clearcoat and polish it...if the scratch is on the clear coat only, then its possible to polish with rubbing compound.

If no clear coat, then I'd suggest you take it to a professional wheel polisher. It will probably come back more shiny (*bling*)...which means you'll need to do all 4 wheels to match.

i believe those are the stock rims, and if that's the case then i think there is clear coat. and usually if you get curb rash, man that's probably through the clear coat

Default Repair & Refinish Alloy Wheels

Call a few Lexus dealers in your area and ask them who they outsource the Repair & Refinish of Alloy Wheels to. There are people out there who specialize in this work and they can make your wheel look as good as new for about $75-$100.

SoCal guys take your wheels to MagMasters in Santa Ana, hands down the best rim repair shop in OC. I have a cracked rims I need to drop off to them this week, and another with a curb rash. I can come back and post up prices after I talk to them, but from what I rememver it's $80 to fix a crack or curb rash. Check out their site and give 'em a call www.magmasters.com Most things I'm willing to try to fix myself but not this type of repair as I know nothing about wheel repair.

I'm not affiliated with this shop in anyway, just a regular guy who looks for the best deal around like everyone else.

Default gettins

hey man,
if you want to re-chrome your rims.. there's plenty of places in so cal. BUT , i don't htink they can match JDM chrome. one rim might be more blinging than the others. that's the only downside. that is why i went with the regular polish gettins. let me know.

Like you said before, rather than just rechrome one rim I'll probably do all 4 to match...
And since Gettins are 3 piece rim, can they just rechrome the lip only? Could you recommend me a good shop?

My other option is to contact Will and ask him if I could order just the lip from Arrow Enterp.

Thanks..
