Replacment Tire Prices
I've been looking at replacing my tires and have found that there is a huge difference in tire prices in the US vs Canada.
Especially on high performance tires in large low profile applications.
I am in need of some Michelin Pilot Sports 245/40/18's, they are $242.00 at tire rack and the best price I can get in Ontario is $512 per tire plus %15 tax.
At today's exchange rate the tires tire works out to be $314.00 CDN before tax.
Its better to have the tires shipped from the tire rack to a dealer in Buffalo or one of their preferred installers, drive down and do the swap. In this case I would save over $1000.00.
Kinda hard to say no, other than the fact that its illegal.
Does anyone else find this insane that there is that much of a difference?

Hi, I'm in Vancouver, & the Michelin Pilot Sports A/S ranges from Canadian$ low $400's to the low $500's. depending on the dealers, that's excluding sales tax & GST, plus they usually charge you $7 -10 for installation per tire.So check around. Keep in mind the Tire Rack price does not include shipping & import tax if they ship to Canada.

Ah Canada, where the Molson is cheap and the performance tires are expensive. I have many customers who do exactly as you suggest in Buffalo or Detroit usually. I have no idea about the legality, I thought if they were on the car it was no problem but I'm am not sure. Also, I think if you are in the US for a certain amount of time you can bring them back duty free as well? Anyway, we can still ship to Canada and you will save money.
