BRAKE Fluid
I flushed out my brake fluid a few months ago. Decided to try the Wagner 5.1 break fluid for a change. My question is that it's already turning an dark amber color rather quickly. I normally use the dot 4 valvoline years back. The color is almost rather clear always. With the 5.1 I don't see, or feel any issues with it so far. Just wanted to know the charecteristics of the fast color change was due to contamination or is this normal? I normally just flush out the brake fluid out once a year or so.
Specifically what brand and type of Dot 4? Mixing with mineral-oil and silicone-based brake fluids or DOT 5.0 must be avoided. Observe the vehicle manufacturer's change intervals.
I try to pick a brand and type and stay with it as it is nearly impossible to remove all traces of the old stuff. That said, it almost seems like an interaction if it was clear when installed. Any reason for the switch, or just because?

From my readings alot of folks say that "5" is more viscous with the factory rubber brake lines and eat them away...hence the quicker discoloration of the fluid. Literally, it's the rubber lines breaking down.
Well now, there's 5.0 and 5.1 brake fluid? LOL! Learn something new everyday. Looks like 5.1 is compatible, but 5.0 is not.
Assuming the OP has true 5.1 fluid, then there shouldn't be any compatibility issues.

Well this morning I was looking for my tire pressure gauge. I found some leftover 5.1 brake fluid, and I peeked inside the bottle. It has a slight orange tinge to it as well. I just can't remember if it was clear when I first poured it in. Looking on my RockAuto purchase history it been about 6 months now.
Like I said I have no issues with it just that it's an amber color now.
Using Valvoline DOT 4 for many years it would still be clear for the same set period of time.
