Default 2GS Rear Springs

I'm hoping to see if anyone has attempted to use OEM springs from another Lexus model on the rear suspension of the 2GS. I'm NOT talking about the entire strut assembly, JUST the springs mounted on correct GS shocks with correct GS tophats. For instance: I read somewhere that 06+ IS250 rear coils will work on stock 98-05 GS300/400/430 shocks and mounts, and will provide a mild drop. Can anyone confirm this or any other frankenstrut they've concocted?

I know that it's easier and safer to just buy lowering springs designed for a specific application, but hey- have some fun with me.

Thanks ya'll!

Technically any spring with the same diameter will work, but I wouldn't do that even if your tight on cash. Just save up and get the correct parts.

Thanks, but that doesn't really help me or answer the question. It's not that I'm tight on cash, I just like it when I can use OEM spec/quality parts in a situation that would otherwise call for something aftermarket. I've done this successfully in the past and I've seen many others do the same -- with pretty darn good results. A few examples: I put a 95 Prelude Si intake manifold/tbody and a 93 Prelude S ECU in my old beater 91 Accord EX. This added very noticeable power, improved throttle response, and boosted gas mileage. Take the intake manifold from an E36 325i/is, the MAF from an E39 540i, and slap it on an E36 328i/is or M3 and its good for 25whp. The cylinder heads from a 2nd gen 5.0 Explorer add 30-40 whp on 5.0 Mustangs. As far as suspension retrofits, stock Impreza 2.5RS Springs will lower a Forester 2 inches. One of my favorites is for the TJ Wrangler: 93-98 Grand Cherokee V8 front springs and 91-02 Ford Crown Vic rear springs give it 3in of lift.

Back to my current situation: I already have 30mm RCA's installed up front on my GS, and I really like that I was able to get a mild drop and maintain stock ride quality (this is a DD). If I can use an OEM Lexus coil to drop the rear a tad, It'd be pretty cool.

There is literally no point to this, that's why nobody has done it.

There is a point, which I explained. Did you read any of the above post? And I actually just found someone who has done it, with the results I'm looking for.

Wow - I wasn't expecting such animosity

You only said that you think OEM springs are somehow of better quality than aftermarket springs and are hoping for there to be some other benefit. You admitted already that there are safer and easier methods, and you are correct. No matter what your goal is, there is an aftermarket spring actually designed for this car that will do what you want. There is no need to guess at what other cars' parts will fit unless you plan on pulling parts from a junk yard because you can't afford the correct parts. At that point however, the argument of better quality is not so strong. This isn't animosity, this is just answering your thread.

I never said I was "hoping for there to be some other benefit." I said (twice) that my goal was a mild drop. I would like to do this using OEM parts if possible. I don't want to guess at what parts may work, which is why I am asking if anyone has done this. I found one person who has, and I'm curious if there are others. If you think it's a bad idea, that's ok - and I do appreciate the input.
