Default cutting a hole in shock tower?

has anyone cut a hole in their shock tower to clear the upper control arm and ball joints?
I just installed spc ball joints and not I hit. how safe is this? is there alternatives?

Alternatives are aftermarket UCAs OR you can pound the inner shock tower with a BFH to form a bubble over where the ball joint hits instead of a hole.
