Default Fan motor problem?

Hello everyone! I have an 08 IS 350 that just today started making a sound that seems to be related to the fan. The sound comes from right under the glove compartment. I've noticed that when I switch from outside vent to inside air circulation the sound goes away. Any information as to what this might be is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I hope someone chimes in. happened to me today. i removed the panel (as if changing the cabin filter - yes i put it in recirculate mode). the lower part that holds the filter was to high to remove the filter. Maybe only 3/4 inch gap and the filter is at least 1 inch high.

someone please advise!
