OEM Brake Pads Vs. OEM Low Dust Brake Pads
I need your opinions.
Application is a 2006 IS250 AWD.
I am about to install chrome wheels and I have some issues with brake dust. Before I install, I would like to change my brake pads to a lower dust pad. I have never changed my brakes on this car. I do not know what my current pad is, regular, low dust, other. I am making the assumption it is OEM non-low dust as my vehicle was CPO. I would like to stay OEM.
My questions are:
1) For those that have gone from OEM pad to OEM low dust pads is there that much of a noticeable difference?
2) Does the low dust pad still put out a significant amount of brake dust?
3) Should I seek a non-OEM alternative and what are your results?
4) Is there a visual difference for the OEM pad vs. OEM low dust? Meaning, is there a defining feature or marking I could look at to judge what I currently have equipped?

I assume that my car came with low dust pads from the factory (2010 model) because I have very minimal brake dust. Ive seen an IS in person whith a lot of dust on their silver wheels and mine never get that dirty.
If your just looking for a replacement pad with less dust, OEM low dust are the way to go

I just had my brake job done at my local Lexus dealer. They started first with the OEM high-friction pads. Couldn't stand it...my front wheels looked like a fireplace within days of mostly highwya driving.
They just last week replaced them with the OEM low-dust pads at no additional cost, and I'm a happier man for it. I don't feel that i've personally lost any brake performance (again, most of my driving is highway, with a little city traffic on ocassion).
If keeping your front wheels clean is a priority, then I would without a doubt go for the low dust pads.

The low dust pads are a massive difference in brake dust.
As in, if you can't tell which you have, you have the high dust ones.
High dust the wheels go from clean to filthy in a couple of days.
Low dust they go from clean to... still mostly clean...even a month later.
You could ignore your wheels for 2 years with the low dust pads and they'd still look cleaner than the wheels after 2 days of significant use with the high dust ones. It's that huge a difference.
The feel will change (the low dust feel less "grabby", as in the brake pedal no longer feels like an on/off switch) but performance of course is exactly the same- brake pads won't change stopping distance.
