the knuckles are forged from factory. you can cut them and reweld them.

you have any info to prove that they are not strong enough or is it just something you came up with?

just because it is welded doesnt make something weaker. if done right it wont have issues.

most likely preheating the knuckle prior to welding will help as well.

I don't have any info. I'm just thinking off top of my head how it could be stronger when you are attach two pieces together with a weld. I'd rather have something like that one link off 240sx knuckle. We're all learning here in the process. This is a first for me which is why i'm doing research and have questions i'd like to know answers to.

Clearly it looks like it is holding up from his before and after video clips.

this is nothing new really. people have been doing this on s-chassis for a very long time.

D1 has actually outlawed modified spindles, ie cut and weld.

supposedly alex told one of my buddies he will do the work for 100 bucks. the only killer will be shipping.

Your right in that it isnt as strong as stock. I'm sure if you crash or something that weld would be a weak point. I've modded knuckles on many cars not just sc's and its just something you have to do on some cars to get steering angle.

Be warned though, not all cars need new spindles. I think all the 240 guys doing the mods are making the car worse. There is alot more to take into consideration when changing your tie rod location and you can make your steering feel crappy if done wrong. Most of the spindles ive seen are done wrong.

Yeah, if you guys want, you can send your spindles to me and I can mod it. Theres a pic like 5 speed said on my build thread.

Thanks BattleVer... Exactly the input i'm looking for. I love modding cars and will probably do this mod in the future. I just want to be prepared on what I am getting myself into.

Where in CA are you located? I guess i'll be going to you when I need the knuckles modded

Alex P- what is the max castor you can get out of the front end?
IIRC, I could only get 5 degrees.

I like the mod, I just worry about ackerman geometry and bumpsteer issues.

In your experience have you noticed anything worth mentioning?

Drewdizzle- Is your KAAZ 2 way?

Why you worried about bumpsteer? Yeah, the ackerman changes but there are ways around that as well. I dont really know how much castor you can get. I never worry about castor settings cause they just change how much feedback you get from the wheel and with powersteering, it doesnt change all that much.

I "maxed" out my caster to just under 5degrees on the stock adjustments.
...trying to help
I did it for wheel positioning and a bit of additional height to the front when turning.

ya I have a kaaz 2 way.

and as far as the steering of the car it feels like it was stock, except at the last 1/2 turn of the wheel then there is some serious turning angle. I drive my car almost everyday and I haven't had any problems with this mod.

it wouldnt drive any different whether its on the street or track.

it just turns your steering from linear to somewhat exponential, meaning the more you turn the steering wheel the more the wheels will actually angle.
