If it's remanufactured, you can expect the core. If it's brand new then no core charge. If your on a budget, I highly suggest go with the Autozone one, that's what I used, no problem at all, and if ever I get a problem, it's lifetime warranty. The ones from Lexus only come with 1 year warranty, and when I did my research on mine I found out that the company the remanufactures it is the same company that distributes it for dealerships and auto shops. If you're in SD I can help you install it or whatever parts you need, PM me.

Just finished doing this. Huge PITA, at least for me, but then again this is the first time I've ever done anything with suspension & steering. So it was a huge learning experience, and to be honest now that I've done it, I'd be able to knock it out with a full days work. Biggest PITA is the damn power steering hoses (17MM) thats giving me my current issue. I got the 22MM screwed in no problem. Now when trying to get the 17MM in, the damn bolt won't go in with my hand, and I'm afraid to tighten it with a ratchet, I don't want to strip it and have a $100 paper weight on my hands.

& Yes I got a power steering rack from a Lexus Salvage yard for $100 with less than 60K miles on it.

i used to work for a large auto parts warehouse, and i know, for a fact, that no dealership (including lexus) sends their reman parts to the mfg to get rebuilt. just get it at your local parts store and pick up that lifetime warranty.

Are you referring to Meridian in SD?

Regular power steering fluid. That's what Sewell Lexus uses. When my unit was making lots of noises, the service adviser recommended I flush and use regular power steering fluid. Worked like a charm! No more loud noises

BTW I had flushed with fresh Dex II and then moved to Dex III then out of frustration moved to Type-IV atf fluids...all still made noises

I am replacing my rack this weekend and have been searching for a good diy guide. This is really helpful; the best I've come across so far.
