Coilover Spring Rates - Not all coilovers are for racing only!

The reason is because spring rates of coilover systems are designed and engineered to work with particular dampening rates of the coilovers...
So when you put a lowering spring onto a stock shock that's not designed to operate at a compressed state, the comparison or just spring rates would be pointless because the "feel" isn't going to be the same even if the spring rates are exactly the same. Does that make any sense?
EG8: what is the need to convert it to lbs/in (or whatever)? The "other" way to show those numbers is N/mm^2 (Newtons)...the only way I've seen it show (and this was VERY RARE) is "ksi"...

Manaray...
Its not imparative but I would like to be able to compare to see what kind of spring rates I should run in my 1st gen gs3. I made a coil over system and wanted to know if the rates are comparable. Im currently only running 450's in the front and 350's in the rear. Im told the supra's run between 450-800 depending on the setup.
Thanks

Ok...the formula is ROUGHLY 1:55.9...so 1 kg/mm = 55.9 lbs/in (or 56 just rounded up)...here's a chart for the lazy...
kg/mm - lbs/in
3 - 168
4 - 224
5 - 280
6 - 336
7 - 392
8 - 448
9 - 504
10 - 559
11 - 615
12 - 671
13 - 727
14 - 783
15 - 839
16 - 895
17 - 950
18 - 1007
22 - 1231 (ouch!)
On the Supra (JZA-80), the Tein HA's are 14/8 (783/448). The Tein CS's are 10/6 (559/336)...

Ok, I just found out some INTERESTING information. Tein apparently uses different mm numbers to do their rating...so it could be like 10kg/200mm for one setup and 10kg/250mm for another...a 10kg/200mm will be STIFFER than a 10kg/250mm...
So the information spiral continues...what I'm going to do is make a new list using with Spring Rate Ratio number (SRR#)...here's a sample...let's do two different systems...
System 1 = 10kg/200mm which = 0.50 (10/200)
System 2 = 10kg/250mm which = 0.40 (10/250)
System 1 has a SRR# of 0.50 while System 2 has a SRR# of 0.40. So System 2 will be SOFTER than System 1...
This is going to be an ongoing project...

Ok, I have spoken with Tein and they said that ONLY the kg number matters...so my initial thoughts were correct...
Anyways, I have made this a sticky once again cuz there have been a lot of coilover questions lately...
