Dot 3, 4, and 5.1 brake fluid
Are we able to use dot 4 brake fluids? Is it safe with aluminum (ls400 calipers)?
according to the site (a must read):

Dot 3 is:
Glycol Ether Based
and Dot 4 is:
Glycol Ether /Borate Ester
I know dot 4 is compatible with dot 3. I'm just wondering if our system can work with Borate.
Also guys, If we can do Dot 4... Just skip to dot 5.1 because 5.1 is the best of both world (dot 3 and 4). Do not use Dot 4 based on the dot rating, there are dot 3 that has equivalent dry and wet ratings as dot 4 without the Dot 4 handicap.
Don't use dot 5 because it's based on other chemicals... However, you can use dot 5.1
So, I would flush using dot 3 and upgrade with dot 5.1 or do a dot 3 with better specs.
and wow... Castrol SRF is expensive.
