Default Stock vs. coilovers..question

Anybody know why on our stock rear shocks there is what I would call a sleeve. Its the big metal cover that screws into the car with two screws and on coilovers there is no such thing? Is there any disadvantage to not having this? or does it make no difference? I hope you guys know what im talking about if not I can post a picture. thanks

in that picture the tein ha use the stock "sleeve", but my tein flex dont. Does this just vary on different coilovers? or...

The Bilstein PSS coilover system uses the sleeve too.

I have the Tein Flex. Those sleeves you are talking about are actually called strut mounts. The Flex comes with all new aftermarket ones instead of reusing the stock stuff. Most of the more expensive($1000+) coilover usually come with their own as well.

Here's a pic. Left 2 are the rears. Right 2 are the fronts.
