Default shock vs height question

guys i hope you can help me understand...
does the type of shock (i.e. kyb vs bilstein hd), installed with aftermarket springs, directly affect how low a car will be lowered?

Not really. The spring is what support the car. It might make a slight difference, but nothing that you would really notice. The shocks are there for the purpose of dampening. But there are shocks out there that allows you to lower your car just a bit by setting the height adjustment to a lower perch (like the Koni shocks). However, I dont think any companies makes such thing for our cars. We are very limited in aftermarket performance shocks.

Sorry buddy but you'll only get the height you're looking for with coilovers.

the bilstein HD's have adjustable spring seat perches by moving the spring seat rings. not recommended though for the rears because lowering the rear spring seat will probably hit the lower rear control arm.

i dropped my car with the eibach pro kit using bilstein HD's. it's a good drop actually, very similar to an L-tuned drop. the car actually rides better/more comfortable than when i was using oem springs, plus i have no problems going over speed bumps or any ramps. i also didn't have to cut the bump stops as well, as i never bottomed out, even when i forgot to slow down on some nasty dips.

Nice! I did't know the bilstein HD has adjustable perches. Nice to know since I might switch out my KYB for them. I need to lower the front just a bit more.

the spring perch locations aren't that far from each other though, so i don't think it's that dramatic if you move them lower. however, like i said, i wouldn't touch the rears cuz the spring seat might hit the lower rear control arm.
