Default Help, Brake Pedal Sticks!

I bought my car about a year ago with around 70K miles on it. It is a 2000 GS400. I noticed that the brake pedal would clunk a little bit when you take your foot off when I first got the car.

It seems to get worse over time. My car now has around 93K miles on it. The pedal actually stays down for up to 5 seconds after I release the brakes. You can hear it release and spring back up while also feeling the car drag and then free itself from the braking. I can also use my left foot to pull the pedal back up. There doesn't seem to be any special situations that cause this. It happens under quick jabs, slow-light braking, and hard-sustained braking. The duration that the pedal sticks is random but is tending to stay within the 1-5 second range. It makes smooth driving a pain because the car jerks if I have the gas pedal pressed when the brakes release and it feels funny when I release the brakes but its still slowing down in a turn where I should be gassing it.

I also noticed that if I am at a stop with the car running, I can press the gas pedal down with medium pressure and the pedal will slowly sink.

There are no leaks or noises.

I checked the brake fluid and it is at the full line. The fluid is clear as opposed to brown or cloudy. The previous owner had all work performed at Longo Lexus and had kept all of his receipts.

My questions are....

Has anyone come across this before?
Any suggestions?

If I need to bring it in for service, do you think the local toyota dealer can take care of it, or would you suggest to drive it to the lexus dealer? This is a 2+ hour round trip for me to get to a lexus dealer and about 3 hour round trip (just driving) to get to a cheaper service dealership such as Longo.

Update - A stab at the brakes usually does not make them stick.

I thought you guys would have some suggestions but I guess I'm going to have to go to the dealership and shell out a couple paychecks.

Nope. Still saving money for the Stealership. Now I use the right foot for the gas and brake and the left foot for unbrake.

My fear is that they will want to replace the ABS/brake assist system and the master cylinder.

Have u checked your brake fluid level?
Sounds like the master cylinder to me.
Have you looked under the brake pedal to see if there is any abnormality?
Find another Lexus and compare maybe....

Never fixed it. I sold the car. When I asked the dealer, they said it would be $3500 to $5k to fix the brakes, fix the touch screen that doesn’t work when it’s cold and perform the next major service. The GMC dealer bought the car sight unseen on a trade in.
