Front Brake Fitting Kit Orientation
I bought OEM front brake pad, fitting kit and new Shim kit for the brake job of a 99GS400.
I read the service manual on brake pad replacement. However, I am not clear as how the placement of the pad support plate (see attached front brake caliper component for details).
Also, here is the picture I took of the pad support plate and brake pad.
I will name the pad support plate 1, 2, 3 and 4 counting from left to right of the picture.
The right side of the pad is called the upper side and the left side of the pad is call the lower side of the pad.
support plate 1 and 2 is the same except one is for the inner pad and the other for the outer pad (notice how the springing tab point to different side). same hold true for plate 3 and 4.
plate 3 and 4 also have the adhesive on the back to hold it to the caliper. I think it is going to the upper pad to make it easier for the installation. Is this assumption right?
Should I use 1 or 2 for the lower side of the pad?
Should I use 3 or 4 for the upper side of the pad?
thanks in advance for your help,
Ben

Have you taken your wheels off and looked at your current setup? When I replaced mine I just paid close attention to how everything was positioned when I took them apart so I would know how to replace them.

GUNRU-GS4, thanks for reply.
I have not taken off my wheel to take a look at the current placement of the pad support plate.
I took all the pad support plates off the caliper when I did my last brake job 4 years ago. I did not pay attention to how they were position. so, I wouldn't trust the current set up.

I'm doing the same thing soon. I'm replacing all that stuff too. I was talking with my tech and he said to replace those clips too. I'll also be putting on new brembo oem replacements rotors and flushing lines.
