Default Cross Drilled Rotors for IS

Has anyone tried these drilled roters that are available on ebay for our ISX50's? Was wondering if they actually make any difference in braking performance.

I sent Steve the following PM:
Hi Steve,
just wondered if the rotors will make any difference in braking performance for the lexus isX50's. What are the advantages of using a drilled/slotted rotoer? How easy is it to install and make it compatible with the pads that are installed on the car? Can you reply within the posting so other IS owners can benefit? Thanks.

They will not help your braking performance at all. If you want to go with them, do it for the looks, not performance.

What do you mean it won't help at all? If you look at it from a thermodynamics perspective, the heat dissipates from the brakes quicker and your rotors are less vulnerable to warping in the long run...wouldn't that help in some way?

I think your wrong on this. Cross drill suppose to cool the brake faster, so it will nor fade.

Call J Ritt at Stoptech. Ask them about x-drilled rotors. They offer them for the street and show but recommend against them for the track.

Cooling/Thermodynamics argument:
1. a properly vented (internally) rotor will have sufficient flow to disperse the heat without cross drilling.
2. by cross drilling you reduce overall mass and you actually decrease the surface area (needed to dissipate the heat) of the rotors.

Whether you're doing 1 emergency stop or 10, the solid, properly vented rotor will always be cooler than the same rotor that has been cross drilled.

How many F1, Indy, Nascar, etc., race cars have you seen with cross drilled rotors? I haven't.

not feeling the cross-drilled rotors, unless it's a BBK.

though i would be interested in a set of slotted rotors...

Listen. This is the voice of reason, science, and proven performance. Holes and slots are a visual performance item, not a mechanical performance item.

Slotted is supposed to be 'better' because it bites into the pad.

Xdrilled (or better, cast drilled) is supposed to be better in the wet. Xdrilled is supposed to cool better because of additional surface area and ventilation but my highschool physics sides with the fact that the lost mass counters the effect.

lobuxracer is a solid guy, I'd trust him with what he's talking about.

lobuxracer - have you heard of a company called Girodisc?
