Thanks for the opnions guys/gals. Since im so confused, i will think about it over the weekend as well as trying to buy the decals.

Its not that i want it red to show off my stock brakes, its that red stands out and looks good to MOST people who dont know about cars. Not everyone knows about name brand brakes and etc. I thought Black wouldnt add any detail. But after seeing pictures and searching, they are both nice.

Side Note: At the NorCal meet held last Sunday I handed out free Lexus stickers to new members that could be utilized for brake calipers.

Too bad you didn't attend.[/QUOTE]

i believe it depends on the color of the car and the color scheme with the car your going. i did black on 240 with my upgraded brakes because my scheme was white and blue and i thought blue would look too ricey.

although i did red on my lex because i like the way it complimented the red led tails.. so my theme for this is red and white w/ lil chrome touches :-P

You deserve the time off.

Hope you can take vacation for one of our larger meets coming this summer like BOS or EOS.

Now thats nice! I like things that shine! You can get these sprayed with a special clear coat and can just wash them down and they will look nice and shinny.

stock=black
bbk=red
either way, to each their own, and to you depends how much attention you want to draw to your car.

And no Lexus stickers. The car has an "L" badge on the back,
and the stock brakes are nothing to write home about.
I'm all about "de-badging," and I just can't see drawing MORE
attention to the stock brakes.

If you want a little contrast to the black wheels, how about
charcoal grey? I did "engine builders cast grey" on my brother's
first-gen GS OE calipers and it looks nice- not too "in your face,"
but clean and subtle.

Either look will work depending on the color of your car, rims and the effect you are trying to achieve for your car. You've also heard other opinions saying if the brakes are stock, paint em black. Here's another vote for that.

Side Note: At the NorCal meet held last Sunday I handed out free Lexus stickers to new members that could be utilized for brake calipers.

Would you mind telling me what Brand of Drilled, but not slotted rotors those are on the IS ? BTW both look great.

Thanks !

I bought the complete StopTech kit including rotors, pads, braided lines and calipers.

I got a killer deal purchasing from Todd at TM Engineering.

I also added pads and matching rotors for the rear stock calipers (PAINTED BLACK of course).

While digging through my library to get the above photos, I also found the before / after shots of the stock brakes that I painted black before eventually replacing the fronts with the Stop Techs for the IS300.

A big difference just painting them black, compared to leaving them stock.

AFTER

For Purists, this is correct. Of course, people will do what makes them happy.
FYI
Red brake calipers originated from Porsche with their BBK called "Big Reds".
Yellow brake calipers also originated from Porsche for their PCCP, Ceramic brakes.
I have seen white on white cars, chrome, neon green, almost every color in person. It depends on the scheme of your car.

RMMGS4 makes a great point (nice pics) of painting the rotor hats. As you can see the entire brake is molded from one-piece but you can paint the hat, black does look great.

On BBKs, you will notice the hat is a separate piece that is bolted on. This saves weight.
