Strut bars dont really do a great amount in and of themselves. As far as what kind? Metal is metal pretty much but things to watch out for would include: clearing EDFC, clearing your engine cover, and what looks cool to you.

Cusco are well respected. I got one fitted on the front, and I'm pretty sure it helped around the Nurburgring. They don't help much in everyday driving, just at the extremes. You might as well get the rear and front lower chassis braces too. I know I can get strut braces and chassis braces all round by Cusco for around 400USD from Japan.

I had the Carson Tune STB and I really noticed the difference when doing hard cornering. I use to go on a lot of moutain runs and it made a big difference. That's my experience with them, I never had the rear upper strut brace.
